Not every notice needs to be a deep dive. Some weeks, the most useful thing is something small enough to actually finish.
The following three habits each take less than five minutes.
Check one number. Open whatever holds your business finances and look at exactly one figure — your current bank balance, last week’s revenue, whatever you’ve been avoiding. Not to analyze it. Just to look. If nothing currently holds that number in one place, a simple bookkeeping ledger can hold it before anything more complicated is needed. Ninety seconds, tops.
Cancel one thing. Scroll your bank or card statement and find one subscription you haven’t used in the last month. Cancel it, or set a reminder to reconsider it in thirty days. Logging it in an expense tracking journal makes the pattern easier to see the next time this habit repeats. This alone tends to pay for the five minutes many times over.
Name next week’s one number. Before Monday, decide on one figure you’ll check next week — profit, an outstanding invoice, a price you’ve been meaning to revisit. Write it down somewhere you’ll actually see it — a dedicated planner works better for this than a note buried in an app you rarely open.
That’s it. Small, on purpose. The habit of looking is worth more than the size of what you find — it is the same habit that keeps the blind spot quietly working against you from ever fully forming.
